Here at FamilyONE Dental, we are passionate about preventative dentistry and our dental team love passing on this passion to our patients. We can work with you and your family to make sure you have all the information and tools required to gain and maintain optimal dental health. Once you have a healthy mouth, maintaining it is often very easy, only requiring a few minutes each day. In addition to your regular dental examinations, we can provide you with excellent preventative dental care that includes dietary advice, oral hygiene treatments, fissure sealants and periodontal care.

Dietary Advice

The foods you eat and even the time at which you eat them can make a difference to your dental health. We offer fully personalised dietary advice which can be particularly useful if you have recently had a filling or two, despite taking care of your teeth. Our dental team can assess your diet and will offer advice and help on which foods to choose to maintain healthy teeth and gums, and which foods are best kept as an occasional treat.

Oral Hygiene

An oral hygiene appointment is a great preventative dental care treatment as your teeth will be professionally scaled and polished leaving them beautifully clean and fresh. This treatment removes calculus or tartar from your teeth that could otherwise cause gum disease and tooth decay. We can provide tips and instructions on how to brush and floss more effectively, including information on different tools to try.

Fissure Sealants

We strongly recommend using fissure sealants to protect a child’s newly erupted adult back teeth but there is no reason why this treatment can’t help adults with healthy back teeth. Fissure sealants are used to protect the chewing surfaces of these teeth, completely sealing the intricate grooves and fissures and creating a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Treatment is quick, cost-effective and non-invasive and fissure sealants should last for years before they need reapplying.

Periodontal Care

Gum disease is a common condition caused by a bacterial infection and which without treatment may lead to tooth loss. It is one of the reasons why we strongly suggest regular check-ups as often the first signs are easily missed or ignored. With prompt treatment, gum disease is completely reversible but may become chronic in the latter stages. If you do have gum disease, we will work with you to help restore your gums to health. Sometimes it may be a matter of simply deep-cleaning your gums to help remove the infection combined with an improved oral care routine at home.
